A tribute to a great man - Uncle Gus - 12/9/1908 - 1/18/2009

It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that I relay on that my Great-Uncle Gus has passed away.  This great and wonderful man lived a full 100 years, and his stories will stay with those that loved him for the rest of their years.  Gus was my father's uncle, my grandfather's brother, and my dear friend.  He was the man from my childhood whose shoes I walked around in when I was a toddler, who brightened our Christmas' each year with Oranges and Grapefruits from his beloved Florida, and whose friendship and companionship brought more joy to my life that I could ever describe in words.  He was a key to a part of my family history that I never knew about - his stories were abundant, informative and usually very entertaining.  He earned two Master's Degrees, was a World War II Veteran, a school librarian, a volunteer at the New York Public Library during the summer, and a traveler to North Carolina, Tennessee, and various other places where his family and friends resided.  He moved to Florida in 1938, and said he would never live anywhere else. He had a passion for reading (especially the daily paper), a love for sports (especially his Miami Dolphins and any good tennis tournament),  and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge (especially when it came to gardening and growing plants and fruit and vegetables).
I could go on and on about him.  But my most recent and favorite memories of him in the last few years are his times with Molly and his 100th Birthday party.  They were the two things that truly made him smile, right up to the end.
Below are just a few pictures from the last few years...please enjoy.

New Addition to the Family!!! (The 4-legged kind :))

So Brad & I decided we were ready to expand our family, and Molly was definitely ready for this kind of sibling - A DOG!!!  Tom & Eleni gave us a wonderful Christmas present - a 2-year-old female Rhodesian Ridgeback!  Her name is Bailey and she is not only beautiful, she is wonderful too!  She has the stamina and energy to keep up with Brad on a 5 mile run (and could probably keep going) and the patience and affection to be sweet-as-can-be with Molly.  We are so happy to have her be a part of our family!!!

Bailey chilling on her new dog bed!

In this picture you can see her "ridge"- the part of fur on her back that runs in the opposite direction as the rest of her fur, giving the breed the name Ridgeback.

Now you see Molly...

Now you don't!!!

Hugs are in great abundance these days!!!

We honestly don't know who likes the dog bed more - Molly or Bailey!

Hugs!!!

Isn't she a pretty girl??

Bailey, Brad & Molly - if you thought getting a toddler to take a picture took some time, try adding a dog to the mix - this was like Take 17!!!

Bailey is very anxious to meet all of our friends and family - so come on over!!!

Bouncing Fun!!!

ur friends Sam, Corine and Renzo invited Molly & I to come and explore this great little place nearby that has all inflatable bouncy machines inside.  What a find!!!  It was definitely a toss up as to who had more fun - the kids or the adults!  There is a video at the bottom that is just full of laughter - enjoy!!!

Molly couldn't wait to get started!!!

Sam & Renzo exploring together!

Molly kept looking at me with this face that seemed to say "Can you believe this place?"

Corine & Molly posing for a picture - I was not fast enough to get Molly doing "Big Smiles" too!

When they had a "wipe-out" here it didn't matter - they just bounce back up and kept going!!!

I snagged Renzo for some cuddle time

Weeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

Coming out of the obstacle course - What a work-out!

Renzo was one happy boy!

Molly took a break from bouncing to prepare a wonderful concoction of food - with the help of her personal chef, Sam.

Thank you SO MUCH!!!

Brad, Molly & I would like to thank all of our family and friends for making this Christmas season absolutely wonderful.  We are so grateful for each and everyone of you!

The Rest of Christmas Day!!!

The rest of Christmas day was very busy, but lots of fun.  We had a early dinner at Molly's PopPop's house with Grandmom (Barbara), Gi-Gi (Jones), Great-Grandma Houchins, and Molly's Uncles Chris, Andrew & Tyler, and her Aunt K-K.
THEN...
We went to Grandma (Eleni) and TG's House for a later Christmas dinner!  Molly had a great time opening her presents and playing with the doggies.

You could not wipe the smile off of Molly's face ALL DAY!

Every present opened was met with the same wonderful excitement and awe - it was wonderful to watch and reminded all of us of the child-like wonderment
that is Christmas day.

Even Bella was dressed for the occassion!

Molly LOVED the candy canes!!!

Molly loved her purse SO much - she did not set it down all night!

I tried to grab her to get a picture with the purse - but  she was a woman on the move!

Molly's first Disney princess doll!

Molly's disney princess bike - this one was also a big hit!

Christmas Morning!

Christmas day was crazy hectic, but we were able to steal a few minutes at home in the morning.  I only have a few pictures to show for it and a couple rough videos - but still enjoyable!

Molly LOVED having Aunt K-K's dog Parker stay with us!

Look Aunt K-K!!!

Christmas Morning Smiles!!!

Christmas Take 1: New Jersey

With Russ, Meghan & Lexie out this way, we celebrated Christmas early at my Mom's house - and Santa did indeed come early for the girls!  The girls had a blast with all their Aunts & Uncles (and their cousin Brian :)), and even ended up with matching PJs!  The day was filled with good food, good fun, and a lot of laughs!

Molly & I and her new doll!
Lexie showing her Daddy her new toy!

Once Molly opened her doll, she never put it down!
(And still hasn't!)

Both Molly & Lexie were SO excited!

They were flying on Cloud 9!

Molly was trying to play dress up with Uncle Walt - he was such a good sport!

Big smiles at the end of the night!
